Finally, a step-by-step program you can follow to learn how to play REAL taqasim with juicy licks & techniques!
I’ve been there before, with these thoughts in my head... “I have no idea where to begin a taqsim…” “What do I do next?” “I don’t know if this even sounds good.” “Wow, he plays so fast, I can’t even follow along.” When you hear an Oud taqsim for the first time, it’s like a magic carpet ride into the unknown. The phrases move so fast and the melody takes you away.
You have no choice but to just listen and enjoy. You never know where the taqsim will go…
a modulation here and there...
a quick turn here…
a juicy riff over there…
It takes listening to the same taqsim a few times before you start to understand what’s going on or to know what’s happening next.
And it takes even more effort to try to repeat those phrases and melodies on your own instrument. Ultimately, you want to be able to play those juicy melodies and phrases yourself, and you want to create taqasim from scratch and improvise.
Your dream of being able to learn taqasim is about to come true.
They say you can't be taught how to play a taqsim, but it's simply NOT TRUE.
There ARE rules and riffs that seasoned Oud players follow to make their taqasim sound juicy and authentic. And those can be taught one by one.
I'll tell you more about it in a minute... but first, in order to learn how to play a taqsim, you need to understand the process.
To learn to play a taqsim, you have to follow these 2 steps:
Step 1. Learn taqasim note by note - Learn by copying other people's taqasm on your Oud. It helps you learn phrases and forms of melodies.
Step 2. Learn to connect things - Start creating your own taqasim by connecting what you've learned. For this, you need some knowledge and a little courage to do something different and figure it out along the way.
The process is simple, but...
...yes, the process IS simple.
But many Oud players fail to even get the hang of it....
Because no one is there to give you feedback and guide you.
So you may go back feeling like "playing random notes on the scale".
You need somone telling you EXACTLY:
...and other nuances that come with different maqams!
This is where I can help.
Let's end this unsatisfying journey of playing taqasim. It's time you got on track to play REAL taqasim.
In this brand new program, Step by Step Taqasim, you'll get step-by-step guidance on EXACTLY what to do in a taqsim, complete with juicy licks and riffs that make your Oud playing sound authentic!

Q: Is this program right for me?
A: You need to be able to play tunes and rhythmical pieces fairly well and be familiar with several maqams. You should rate yourself as an intermediate player. This is not a bare beginner’s course for learning Oud. If you’re not sure, email me a clip of your Oud playing to email@example.com and I’ll let you know if the program is right for you.
Q: I’m a qanun player, can I still use this material?
A: You will benefit from about 80% of the material in this program. The Simon Shaheen licks and riffs section will be difficult to apply to your instrument.
Q: Will I learn famous or well-known taqasim?
A: This program teaches original taqasim composed by myself, Navid Goldrick. You will not learn a famous taqsim by Farid Al Atrash or other players. The taqasim have been created to teach specific concepts and are designed to be entry-level taqasim difficulty. The aim of this program is to give you the framework to become an improviser and create your own taqaqsim.
Q: What if I’m not happy with the program?
A: We have a 60-day money-back guarantee. If you feel like you didn’t learn anything or this wasn’t the right fit for you, we are happy to refund your money. We will require some feedback from you on how we can improve. Email Navid at firstname.lastname@example.org.
